Improved Method for Measuring Refractive Index and Thickness

Achievements of this study:

• The accuracy of refractive index and thickness is limited by using the conventional mode eequation for the planar leak waveguide coupler.
• Modal loss coefficients can be numerically determined from the optical thin film theory.
• Analytical form of the modal loss coefficients are derived by and analogy to Beer's law.
• Considering the influence of the modal loss, the accuracy of refractive index and thickness cna be improved greatly.
