II. Synthesis of Molecular Chromophores
In addition to polymeric chromophores, we are sythesizing molecular chromophores. These are highly conjugated species that should be particularly sensitive to external fields. In some cases, the chromophores are designed to be added to a fiber much like traditional dyestuffs. In others, we are attaching the chromophores to the surface of films and fibers in a highly organized manner. An example of the first type of chromophore is shown below.
