II. Synthesis of Molecular Chromophores

We are also investingating porphyrins and porphyring arrays as field-sensitive chromophores. Here we show the synthesis of a thiol-linked octaethyl porphyrin that will self-assemble into well-defined layers on the surface of electronically conducting polymers. We can also constructe acetylene and diacetylene-linked arrays of porphyrins with or without metals.
