Redox Polymers as Chromophores

We are also interested in the polyphenelyene vinylene (PPV) family of polymers. Some of our recent work is based upon the following observations:

PPV molecules are "tunable" by small structural variations

PPV oligomers emit at different wavelengths for different molecular weights.

PPV's with kinked chains have different emission spectra than non-kinked chains

PPV's with kinked chains have enhanced solubility.

Therefor, we are constructing we are developing synthetic routes to to oligomers of PPV with well defined length and structure.
